It wasn't a bad movie. I didn't get into it emotionally as I would other movies because I couldn't really relate BUT it's a well-made movie that deserves the awards it's getting. Plus, maybe people should be exposed to the fact all gay people don't wear pink and live in NYC.
Yeah, I agree that the exposure of the topic is needed, but couldn't it have been something besides a cowboy movie? I mean, I have so few illusions left, but I was kind of clinging to that one.
Everyone I know who has seen it says that it was good, and given its performance at the Golden Globes, I'm sure that it will clean up at the Oscars. Still, if you are Heath Ledger, did you ever really think your first big award would be for playing a gay cowboy opposite of the guy that starred in "Bubble Boy"?
Couldn't relate to a gay cowboy movie? There's a shocker.
I agree with Sarah that not all gay people wear pink or live in NYC. BUT...there are NO gay cowboys. This is a fact.
Second, the fact that anyone is attempting to get emotionally involved with a cowboy movie is just wrong. The only time one might contemplate an emotional connection with a cowboy movie is when John Wayne died in The Cowboys. Even this emotional connection, however, was a suck it up and kick some ass type emotional reaction.
The fact that this movie did so well at the self-proffering Hollywood type awards demonstrates that Hollywood has lost touch with what makes a good cowboy movie.
I sure hope they find a way to bring John Wayne back to life because I've about had it with the frufru crap that Hollywood has been turning out lately

I don't think it's supposed to be a traditional cowboy western. It's more of a drama. And it WAS sad. The characters just happen to be cowboys.
I bet there were a lot more gay cowboys than you think.
See, Sarah. There you go crushing my illusions again.
That's me, crushing dreams left and right.
