Racists

Just read a news article (excerpt below) and couldn't believe that this level of racism exists at a U.S. university. Amazing.

******On Sept. 25, the Women's Studies and Graduate Consortium at Northeastern University in Boston held a public on-campus meeting called "Breaking Bread: Women Dialogue." Black women were barred.

The SGA demanded that no student be denied entry to a public, on-campus event because of skin color. This was not merely a moral stand but also a demand that the university-sponsored event comply with the university's non-discrimination policy. (Exclusion on the basis of gender seems to have raised no comment.)

Rather than cancel the event, Dr. Robin Chandler — director of women's studies and an organizer of the event — cracked the door wide enough for black women to walk through.

In NU, Northeastern's student newspaper, Chandler described her response to allowing a black woman to attend. "I welcomed her anyway, in addition to telling the audience to conduct themselves with integrity even though the presence of a black woman was unwelcome," she said. Chandler continued, "I think it's a shame that one or two black students based on black privilege, a lack of awareness of racial issues and a lack of generosity of spirit complained to the office of the provost and were able, because they were black, to gain admission to the morning session that I was forced to open up."******

Except the story was about barring WHITE, not BLACK women. Change every "black" above to "white".

This country is heading for another civil war. It will be either racial or socio-economic. It is not a matter of "if", but "when", and the reason is that fucking liberal dumbshits like those at NU are allowed to couch their disdain for other races or economic groups as politically correct "diversity" events.

But what the hell. I guess that being an upper middle-class white guy, I'm probably going to be on the winning end of the battle.

(Was the last line a little over the edge? Thought about removing it, but this stuff just pisses me off.)

First - Quit reading Fox News. This is a column, so it doesn't have to be unbiased. Therefore, because it's Fox News, it doesn't really have to tell the WHOLE story - just enough of it to support the columnist's view.

The fact that NO other news organizations are reporting on it makes me wonder what is really going on.

Also, Brother, I have realized that there are some things that we are not going to understand about how people of other races think and feel.

We can condemn their thinking as WRONG, or we can try to understand how they arrive at their conclusions. We may still disagree, and that's fine.

I'm not saying that it's OK for black people to be racist or to close their meetings to white people, or other races.

I'm saying that it would be interesting to learn why black people want to seperate themselves from white people - why do they want to have closed meetings?

I'm not apologizing for being born white and middle class, but I do recognize that in this society, I have privilage, and you have even more than me.

It is impossible to understand how much privilage matters until you don't have it.

I agree that Fox News sucks. No argument.

HOWEVER, the story was first reported by the NU Student Newspaper. (see http://www.nu-news.com/media/paper600/news/2005/09/28/News/Forum.Opened.To.All.After.Discrimination.Complaints-1001178.shtml)

Surely you aren't saying that Student Newspapers can't be trusted?

Also, don't lie to yourself. Although we grew up with two married, employed parents, we also wore plenty of hand-me-down clothes and scrimped to get by. We had a good childhood, but no childhood of priviledge.

Any priviledge that I have, I earned. I went to a state school on an academic scholarship and made my own way through law school.

I guess that I AM condemning thier thinking as wrong, and I AM saying that it isnot ok for people to limit admission to a publicly-funded event based on race.

The longer we allow ourselves to ask questions about why it happens, or whether it might be acceptable in some situations, the greater the racial divide will grow.

ANYTHING that is not ok for a white person to do, is not ok for a black person to do.

And yes, I still love you, even when you act like a liberal.

I can't access the student newspaper. I've tried various ways and it's not working.

Student newspapers definitely CAN be trusted, but since I can't read what they wrote, I still don't know what the whole story is.

Don't lie to YOURSELF, brother. Yes, we grew up without money, but that doesn't take away our privilege.

Privilege is generations deep. We didn't have money, but both our parents were college educated. Before that, both our grandmothers were college educated. Before that, who knows.

Each person in our family earned their spot - everyone worked their asses off to go to college and to succeed.

But while you and I, both our parents and all of our grandparents were ALLOWED to attend k-12 and also college, that was not the case for black people - especially those in our parents and grandparents' generations.

Until the 1960s, segregation kept black people in poor schools with little chance of seeking higher education.

Had you been born black, you probably still would've accomplished the same things - but I imagine that it would've been more difficult.

Finally, CONDEMING someone's thinking without taking time to try to understand it is what cause the racial divide to grow.

That's like shooting first and asking questions later.

I've never heard of communication and sensitivity making things WORSE.

In this case, I agree that it was wrong to think it was OK to ban white women when the opposite situation would never have been acceptable.

I'm just saying - not every case is like this and it's important to try to understand people who see things differently than we do.

P.S.
Liberal Shmiberal. :)

Eeds, I love ya, but your full of crap. The african american race quit being underprivileged decades ago. I don't need to specualte as to their thinking process. Although I am not black, through astute observation, I think I can sum up their thinking for you. (Note: I'm understanding their thinking so according to your comments, I am free to condemn).

Most black people in the US today believe they are born entitled to something. Instead of asking for an opportunity like their fore-fathers during the Civil rights movement, most are asking for a handout today.

I'm sorry, but I don't care what color your skin is or how underprivileged you think you are you are NOT entitled to a handout.

Your brother had a very good point regarding how we grew up. Like, you, I grew up in a farm family in the 1980's, if you can't understand how difficult this decade was on farm families please call your father and do some investigative journalism. Second, my family immigrated at the trun of the century. My great-grandfather had only an elementary education and spoke English as a second language. My grandfather recieved an eight-grade education. My father received a bachelor's degree and I am proud to say I am the first in my family to hold a doctorate.

The point of that exercise is to show you that (a) my families evolution was not built on any so called privilege and (b)people cannot be given anything, but opportunity (and by that I do NOT mean affirmative action). To improve as a cultural or person you have to earn your achievements on your own terms, it can't be given to you because you are different. Also, for your information here is the definition of privilege: "A special advantage, immunity, permission, right, or benefit granted to or enjoyed by an individual, class, or caste." I am damn sure my family did not have this when it came to this country and has never achieved such a status since.

Black people (and I'm generalizing here) have forgotten to utilize opportunities and have reverted to asking for handouts. This leads to the culture thinking its all right to live like thugs and glorify the ghetto lifestyle.

So I say to them. Get off your ass, and quit whining about how everyone holds you back as a culture. The only thing holding you back is you and excluding others from your group whining session only exacerbates the problem.

For further analysis of this problem see Bill Cosby's recent letures and remarks. Although you may criticize me for an inabilty to understand becayse I'm not black, I'm pretty sure that argument doesn't work with Bill.
